20 Years of Richard Dawkins’ The God Delusion… Producing Christians?

This October is the 50th anniversary of Richard Dawkins’ book The Selfish Gene and the 20th anniversary of The God Delusion. To mark the occasion, we have been releasing some messages for him from followers of his work, but they have one thing in common: they all have stories of leaving atheism, and coming to faith through Dawkins - which have been published in a book of that title!

Peter Byrom just wanted to focus on drama at university and ignore the idea of God, but reading The God Delusion kicked him out of his apathy and set him on a journey to find what Dawkins told him to look for: evidence for God! He not only found it, but he ended up confronting Dawkins on why he wasn't engaging with its leading proponent, William Lane Craig. Peter went on to become a Christian 15 years ago today, and now works as my operations manager!

On the 20th anniversary of Richard Dawkins' book The God Delusion, engineer Nick Berryman tells his story... of becoming a Christian after buying a copy at the airport! The first reading made him an atheist, but the second time he read it, he chosen to listen to the other side as well.

More stories like this can be read in the book Coming To Faith Through Dawkins, published by Kregel.

“I found your book ‘Why I’m Still A Christian’ deeply encouraging, especially in a time like this when there is a lot being done in the name of Christianity that I find so disheartening.

I just want to thank you for the huge amount of love and care you poured into that book, and also how fair you were to multiple view points. It felt so well balanced, with an incredible capacity for nuance. It was just what I needed to hear in this moment. Thank you!”
